Who Should Win the Game of Thrones?
WARNING: SPOILERS ALL OVER THIS ARTICLE!!!!
Game of Thrones is almost here, as we are just about two weeks away from the dramatic conclusion to one of the greatest tv shows in history. If you’ve followed the show from season 1, you know that GOT has the most insane plot twists and doesn’t give a F who your favorite character is. You’ve seen your share of favorite characters get killed off, most likely murdered in a very brutal fashion.
Let’s reflect on some who might have been in the conversation for the Iron Throne, if they hadn’t met their demise earlier: Ned Stark, Rob Stark, Ramsay Bolton (admit it, you liked him), Stannis Baratheon, King Joffrey, and even Littlefinger could be argued. However, they’re all dead. Each one of them suffered a gruesome fate that none of us really saw coming. And if you say you predicted the “Red Wedding” or Ned Stark getting decapitated at the end of season 1, you’re just a flat-out liar.
So, let’s get to the main point of this. Here are the front-runners for the Iron Throne and who will most likely win the Game of Thrones.
6. Sansa Stark
Sansa has been here since day 1 (as are many people on this list). Sansa started out as a young lady…. who was kind of a bitch. She was so happy to move away from Winterfell and marry a prince. Well, she got her wish and she soon realized that it wasn’t as glamorous as she once thought. Since then, she has seen some real shit go down. She has developed into a worthy leader and a strong candidate for the Iron Throne. Especially because she had Petyr Baelish waxed for being a creep.
5. Tyrion Lannister
Another day 1 favorite. Ever since our first interaction with Tyrion banging hookers, he also has grown into a intelligent mind on the show (not that Tyrion was ever stupid). His journey has taught him more than he ever thought possible. Being betrayed by your own family would be tough to swallow but Tyrion took it in stride, killed his own dad, and then worked his way on up to become the Hand of the Queen for Daenerys. He has escaped death on many occasions, so there is no reason to think he wouldn’t be able to do the same in season 8 and take the Iron Throne using brains, not brawn.
4. Cersei Lannister
The current queen of the Seven Kingdoms and someone who has no intentions of losing her title. It’s hers to lose and it’s hard to find reasons why she would lose it. She has The Mountain as her personal bodyguard, The Iron Fleet captained by Eruon Greyjoy and the Iron Bank to fund all of her endeavors. Oh, and on top of all of that she may also acquire the Golden Company from Essos in Season 8. Cersei has the most assets out of pretty much anyone on this list. She is missing a couple of dragons to melt people that piss her off, but she’s getting along just fine without them.
3. Jon Snow
He is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. He IS the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, which also means that…. yeah he hooked up with his aunt…. But that’s ok, he didn’t know. It’s only weird after he finds out and keeps doing it. The fan-favorite in the show, who has been loyal, courageous, fierce, and just all around bad-ass. Most people would be satisfied with seeing Jon Snow finishing on top and sitting on the Iron Throne. He is a king after all, and he does seem to have what it takes to lead considering he led a bunch of Wildlings to victory against the Bolton army in “The Battle of the Bastards.” He could easily be the winner in all of this, but GOT and George RR Martin wouldn’t make it that easy for us, right?
2. The Night King
The Night King is definitely a top-contender for the Iron Throne. He has the biggest army out of anybody, which only grows each time someone dies. He also has an ice dragon that he can use to travel quickly and fuck people up. Also, we don’t really know what he can do yet. We’ve only seen him for brief periods at a time. He can revive people and launch a javelin farther and more accurate than anyone in the history of fictional characters…. but what else? There has to be more to him and the White Walkers coming in season 8. There’s not much depth to a zombie army that just wants to kill everyone, so what are we missing here? The answers will hopefully come in season 8. The Night King is not going to disappoint when it comes to killing as many people as he can, and he just may be sitting on a frozen Iron Throne when all is said and done. Didn’t someone have a similar vision already?
1. Daenerys Targaryen
Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. The greatest character development out of anyone else on the show. She went from being sold off, pretty much as a slave, to becoming the greatest ruler in the entire series. She has two dragons left by her side, Jon Snow as a nephew/lover, Tyrion as her Hand, and plenty of armies that are willing to fight for her cause. She’s been merciless towards her enemies, righteous towards her people, and inspiring to her counsel. Although at times she has had struggles determining what is right and wrong, she always makes a calculated decision that leads her to success. So, considering all of that, there’s no reason that she wouldn’t eventually achieve her ultimate goal of taking the Iron Throne.
Honorable Mentions
Here’s a list of people who it could be, but are highly unlikely:
Bronn, Brianne, Euron Greyjoy, Brandon Stark, Jaime Lannister, Samwell Tarly, and Gendry just to name a few….
