Brooks Koepka’s Dirty Little Secret

Brooks Koepka Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka defends his 2018 PGA Championship this week with the confidence of Donald Trump on a debate stage. He’s quick to remind us “Pressure is going to beat those guys” in reference to the others in the PGA field. And with 3 major wins in the last 2 years, he might be right.

But the thing you don’t know about Koepka keeps the American up at night. Brooks knows the math and it isn’t pretty. Internally he must cringe at the thought of it. That’s why externally, he emits zero emotion and doesn’t step down from trash talk. He keeps his broad shoulders and large frame straight. Because he can’t afford to succumb to the stat that could doom him.

Brooks only wins 4% of the PGA TOUR tournaments he plays in. But fans like you think he’s a world beater. A champion. They think he’s a 10/1 favorite at this PGA Championship. But it turns out he wins less than the worst teams in any sport, misses more than any star player on planet Earth.

You think 4% isn’t bad in golf? Rory McIlroy wins 9% of his tournaments. Brooks’ buddy Dustin Johnson wins 8% of his. And Tiger Woods, down and out for a decade before his Masters resurgence, has still won 23% of the events he’s played in his career.

Brooks isn’t actually a winner. That’s why he can’t stop telling you that he is.
