NHL Uni Rankings (14-10)

14. Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have had a great setup since they entered the league in 1967. Orange and black is not a popular color combo in sports, but I like it. The Flyers’ unis are bright and stand out with the orange, without having an exaggerated look about them. The black trim in the jerseys adds a nice touch. Another thing that sometimes goes unnoticed is their use of nameplates on the back of their jerseys. It’s another rarity in hockey, but it looks clean. It also has a unique feel to it. The logo is classic and simple, yet effective on the center of the jersey. I hate the Flyers, but I’ll give them credit. I like the style.

13. Columbus Blue Jackets

Red, white, and [navy] blue is never a bad choice when it comes to sports teams. The Blue Jackets have a great look. The red pants and the navy blue jerseys/helmets look really clean together. The striping on the jersey is clean and the stars on the arms add a nice little flare to the jerseys. The logo looks very nice with a “C” hidden in there. Columbus is a newer team in the NHL with a very classic feel to their unis, and I’m a fan of their look.

12. Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver is another team that did themselves a favor by switching from navy blue back to royal blue. They made the switch about 10 years ago and never looked back. The royal blue jerseys with the green striping looks great. The all-blue gloves has a clean feel to it. I’m glad they kept the orca logo. That was a big upgrade from the old disco-skate look.

11. New York Islanders

I hate the Islanders. I can’t even write a blog about them without saying it. But, I do like their sweaters. The Islanders have always had a nice color scheme with the orange and blue. I don’t know why exactly but they stand out to me and they have nice complimentary features. Their blue jerseys use a nice balance of white and orange as striping. The gloves look good with the orange fingers and cuff rolls. The logo is pretty cool with Long Island outlined in the background. It’s a solid look for New York’s second team.

10. Buffalo Sabres

Okay Buffalo fans, I know there’s no pleasing you unless the Sabres are ranked #1… But 10 is a good spot for them, especially considering they are the highest team with navy blue as their primary color. The blue/yellow combo has a great look to it. The yellow striping even pops on their white jerseys, and the grey piping works well as a complimentary touch to the whole thing. The Sabres logo is a classic with the charging buffalo and the crossed sabres below it. The gloves are clean and they don’t overuse yellow in them. The only way the Sabres crack the top ten is when they go back to royal blue, which has been rumored to be coming next season….
