NHL Uni Rankings (9-5)

9. St. Louis Blues

The recent Stanley Cup Champions have a slightly better blue/yellow combo than the Sabres. The royal blue touch gives them the edge over Buffalo, which is why the Blues are slotted at number 9. The crest is still a classic. The large bluenote looks great on the blue jerseys, but even better on the whites. The Blues’ gloves are clean with the all navy and yellow lettering. The unis are all around solid and have a nice classic look to them.

8. Washington Capitals

I tried to put the Caps in a lower spot than 8, but I just can’t (and it’s just so perfect for Ovi). I love the navy setup with red jerseys. The gloves are unique but look awesome with the rest of the uni. Their logo is also distinctive and has a fresh look to it. It is an all-around unique jersey style with plenty of complimentary features.

7. Carolina Hurricanes

Easily the most controversial ranking of all 31 teams. What can I say? I love the Hurricanes color scheme, logo, and jerseys all together. Their red jerseys are a home run, but their whites hold them back from being in the top 5. The Hurricanes do an excellent job of incorporating the hurricane warning flag into the striping of their jerseys. I said it back at #20 for the Devils: red and black is a great color combo for sports. The Hurricanes execute it perfectly.

6. Chicago Blackhawks

When I started these rankings, I said to myself that I wouldn’t put the original 6 as the top 6 unis… Well here we are, and I’ve completely sold out. The truth is that there is no other way. These are just hands-down the best 6 setups in the NHL. The bottom of the pack is the Chicago Blackhawks. I know that their logo is regarded as one of the best in hockey, and in sports. But I’m not a HUGE fan of the logo. I like NHL logos/crests to be a little simpler than that. Now having said that, I love the Hawks’ colors, jerseys, and overall look. The striping is awesome around the jerseys and socks. The red isn’t overused in the gloves. It’s a classic that will hold up for another century or two.

5. Boston Bruins

The Bruins were the NHL’s original black and yellow team. I do wish they used a little yellow in their gloves. The logo is a classic. The spoked B is a legendary hockey logo and has been perfected over the years with subtle changes. There’s not much else to say for these beauties. They were perfected back in 2017-18 when they dropped the yellow socks, but even then I liked what the B’s had. The only way they reach #1 is if they bring back the “Pooh Bear” sweaters.
