Grading the Reverse Retro Jerseys
The NHL has completely distracted the world from the fact that nobody knows when the 2020-21 season will begin. Hopefully we get a Jan. 1 Winter Classic season opener. For now, we’ll settle for debating over which team got the best “reverse retro” jersey. Adidas and the NHL teamed up for a concept of taking old-time NHL sweater and mixing up the colors to create the reverse retro look. Here’s my grades for all 31 clubs.
Calder Watch 2020
The Calder Memorial Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s best rookie for the regular season. The last few winners were Elias Pettersson (2019), Matthew Barzal (2018), and Auston Matthews (2017). Pretty good company. Looking ahead to 2020, there are several players who have a fairly decent chance of winning it. This is a list of POTENTIAL Calder candidates.
2019 New NHL Jersey Ratings (UPDATED)
I believe it was during the 1990’s to boost merchandise sales that the NHL introduced 3rd jerseys. Ever since then, we’ve been treated to some of the greatest hockey uniforms in history, but also some of the worst. This offseason a few teams decided to spice things up around their arenas by adding new unis to their lineups. Was this the greatest offseason for uniform changes we’ve ever had? No, but I do feel that this new lineup of hockey sweaters is worth putting through a grading scale.
