Calder Watch 2020
The Calder Memorial Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s best rookie for the regular season. The last few winners were Elias Pettersson (2019), Matthew Barzal (2018), and Auston Matthews (2017). Pretty good company. Looking ahead to 2020, there are several players who have a fairly decent chance of winning it. This is a list of POTENTIAL Calder candidates.
The Devils Had One Hell of a Weekend
Going into the draft this past Friday, the Devils had a very difficult decision to make. They were awarded the 1st overall pick in this year’s entry draft and were given the opportunity to select either Jack Hughes, or Kaapa Kakko. The draft class was deep this year, but these two were very clearly the top choices. Once the draft began in Vancouver, the Devils kicked things off by selecting Jack Hughes.

The New Jersey Devils are going to have a tough time selecting their man at number 1 because this is a difficult decision. The New York Rangers are almost in a better positions at number 2 overall, because you take whoever the Devils don’t. If you’re the Devils on June 21st in Vancouver, who would you take?
