Weekend Picks from The Gambling Goose
This weekend is an action packed crazy bundle of sports entertainment. First we have some round 2 NBA action with the Milwaukee Bucks traveling to Boston to play the Celtics, and the Portland Trailblazers defending there home court against the Denver Nuggets. Here are my picks.
Milwaukee Bucks @ Boston Celtics
Game 3 of this series will be no different than game 2. Giannis is in my opinion the best player in the league. Just wait until he figures out his 3 ball. It will be like when Billy Madison smoked a bunch of Kindergartners in dodgeball.
The Celtics showed some heart and toughness in game 1, but how far does that get you? When Milwaukee is hot I don't see any team competing with them, except for maybe the "cough" Warriors. Milwaukee is getting 2 pts here. Lock that bet up ASAP! Put it in the books
Milwaukee +2
Denver Nuggets @ Portland Trailblazers
With the series tied at 1-1, I see this going 7 games. That being said Denver is a terrible team on the road with a record of 20-21. This will be Damian Lillard's time to shine. Look for the Trailblazers to assert there dominance here. Portland is a -4 favorite here. Put it in the books!
Portland -4
Now let's get to Saturdays picks. The two events I'm betting on are UFC on ESPN + 9 and Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs.
UFC on ESPN +9
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone vs "Raging" Al Iaquinta
I've been dreaming about this fight for a long time. You've got two fighters who love to fight. Toughness is not in question between these two.
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is the definition of a crafty veteran. The man has 30 fights in the UFC, which is insane considering he's only 36. He always brings an exciting fight and is down to face anybody, anywhere. For him to win this fight he will need to keep distance and soften up Iaquinta's legs and body with kicks.
"Raging" Al Iaquinta is a very violent man from New York. He's as tough as they come and will keep coming forward with the pressure of his slick boxing. With a record of 9-3 in the UFC he's a top 5 contender at the lightweight division. For him to win he will have to use his pressure and not allow Cerrone to get his distance and timing down.
Now...... Who am I gonna pick? Donald Cerrone.
I think Cerrone will come in with fierce combos and wrestling if he needs to. Put it in the books! Donald Cerrone -105
Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs
Canelo Alvarez is number 2 on the pound for pound list with a record of 50-1-2. He has great hand speed, a powerful jab, and an outstanding counter punch that can knock down anyone in the middleweight division. He is currently the WBA Super Middleweight and WBC Middleweight Title holder. Saturday he will be trying to acquire the IBF belt from Jacobs.
Daniel Jacobs is the number 3 middleweight on the world with a record of 35-2. Jacobs Is slick boxer that uses his size to fight with distance, but don't get it twisted the man hits hard. He is the bigger man in this fight and if he wants to win he will have to use his size. Toughness is no question for Jacobs, he beat fucking cancer!
The pick here..... The fight will go the distance (-205)
I would really like to bet on the underdog which is Jacobs, but I don't see him knocking Canelo out. If it goes to the scorecards Canelo will most likely get the nod no matter what. Boxing is corrupt and Canelo is the face that the need to keep winning and take the sport back into the mainstream.
So there ya have it. Here are the picks for the weekend.
Milwaukee +2
Portland -4
Cerrone -105
Canelo vs Jacobs goes the distance (-205)
